Dear Moms & Dads: A Tip on Raising a Powerful, Confident Young Woman
TIP 4: Encourage her to solve issues on her own.
Taking over, something many parents don't realize keep their children (especially teen girls) from developing the coping skills they need to handle situations on their own. A good way to determine where your daughter is at when it comes to solving problems and coping is to give her three scenarios and ask her how she felt about them and what she would do to solve it. Letting her explore in this way not only helps her, but it shows you at what level her problem solving skills are. Even if you do not agree with her decision, you are giving your daughter the opportunity to explore her confidence, give her a sense of control over her life and help her to recognize that she is responsible for her own decisions.
